Crime Rate Up In April, Still Down From Last Year

The crime rate in El Paso, Texas through April 23, 2011 is down 7 percent, but has seen a steady increase of 1 percent per week for the past three weeks.

Listed are some of the changes that have occurred in the last three weeks:

Robbery was down 7 percent on April 2 to being down 2 percent as of April 23, 2011. Assaults were down 5 percent on April 2 to being down 3 percent as of April 23, 2011 Burglary was down 7 percent on April 2 to being down 4 percent as of April 23, 2011 Theft was down 14 percent on April 2 to being down 11 percent as of April 23, 2011 Veh. Theft was down 26 percent on April 2 to being down 24 percent as of April 23, 2011 Burg. of Veh. was down 7 percent on 04/02 to being down 1 percent as of April 23, 2011.

Statewide 70 percent of stolen vehicles are left unsecured. During the month of April 41 percent of the Vehicles burglarized in the Pebble Hills area were left unsecured.
