Former EPCC Van Now Holds Candidate Signs

City Council Candidate Manny Hinojosa said he’d removed the El Paso Community College logos that were on a van with his campaign sings on it.

An ABC-7 staffer spotted the van, which was parked near Mesa and Sunland Park on Thursday morning. It’s illegal for EPCC vans to have any sort of advertisement, including political signs on their vehicles. When we showed pictures of the van to El Paso Community College officials, they looked into it, and told us they’d auctioned off the vehicle in December 2009.

EPCC officials told us the van had been sold to a man by the name of Hector Carrillo. Hinojosa said the van had been sold without EPCC officials removing the logos.

“Apparently what happened is community college sold the van and they forgot to take off their emblems, but as soon as it was brought to my attention by your eagle eye servants, I took care of it, and I’m sorry if it’s caused any confusion to anyone, but I’ve taken care of it,” said Hinojosa.

When asked when he got the van, Hinojosa refused further comment and said he had to set up for a forum, where ABC-7 met him for the interview.

An EPCC official, Javier Sanchez, said it is their policy to remove all school logos before selling their vehicles, but said he did not know why it was not done so in this case.
