EPPD: Man Stabbed In Face, Suspect Involved In Standoff

El Paso Police investigators said northeast patrol officers responded to a stabbing Saturday evening in the 5600 block of Duchess Street.

As officers arrived on the scene around 7:47 p.m., they said found a 19-year-old black man with multiple stab wounds to his face and torso.

Investigators said they were able to identify Sergio Marquez, 19, as the suspect in this case.

Police said officers determined Marquez was inside a nearby home. When they tried to get him to come out, they said he refused.

Investigators said just as police supervisors began to request a SWAT team, Marquez surrendered.

Police alleged Marquez also attempted to clean the home in an effort to destroy evidence.

The victim was hospitalized with what investigators called “non-life threatening” injuries.

Marquez was booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair.

His bond was set at $80,000.
