UTEP Gets $260K Grant To Research Liver Cancer

The University of Texas at El Paso received a $260,000 grant to study liver cancer to develop better methods of prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancerous cells, officials said.

U.S. Rep. Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, on Tuesday announced the Department of Health and Human Services $261,625 grant, which was awarded through the National Cancer Institute for liver cancer research.

“This funding will provide cutting-edge research to better understand liver cancer and to develop more effective strategies for cancer prevention and treatment,” Reyes said in a news release. “This is just one more example of UTEP’s continued commitment to research excellence.”

According to the news release, the National Cancer Institute conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs to improve the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.
