Paso Del Norte Food Bank Closes Mysteriously
A major resource for families struggling to make ends meet has closed its doors amid a shroud of mystery.
The director of the West Texas Food Bank, The director of the Salvation Army, and a board member for the now-defunct Paso Del Norte Food Bank could not agree on when the Paso Del Norte Food Bank closed its doors. Their answers ranged from late last spring to all the way up to a couple of days ago. A past board member of the Paso Del Norte Food Bank, Brooks Vandivort, blames the closure on a lack of donations
He admits, ?The exact date of the closure I don’t have off the top of my head, but the reason for the closing was just that we didn?t have the support that we needed to meet our clients needs, whether it was food, that just didn?t come in the last year and a half.?
The director of the West Texas Food Bank, Ruben Sanchez, said that?s not true. He insists the Paso Del Norte Food Bank received around 90,000 pounds worth of donations from a food drive just last May.
“The National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive was an extreme success in El Paso County,? said Sanchez, ?We received around 180,000 pounds of food locally. We did split the food in half with the Paso Del Norte Food Bank. So all i can say is it was a very successful food drive.”
The IRS revoked the Paso Del Norte?s tax-exempt status for failing to file its required reports for 3 years in a row.
