Lamaison officially named UTEP starting quarterback

It’s finally official.

Nick Lamaison will be UTEP’s starting quarterback for the 2011 season.

UTEP coach Mike Price made the announcement after practice.

“I think he’s the best. He throws a crisp ball; he throws an accurate ball; he takes care of the ball and makes good decisions,” Price said. “He doesn’t fumble the ball or throw picks and that is the kind of quarterback we want to have.”

Price said his leadership over the summer led to the decision.

?I put a lot of hard work in. It?s really paid off,? Lamaison said. ?I?m really happy with coach?s decision. I think I can be really good for this team.?

Earned All-California and All-American honors after leading Mt. San Antonio College to the number one ranking in the JC Athletic Bureau/California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) in 2010.

He was named the Offensive Player of the Year for both the All-California and All-American teams.

The Mounties finished 13-0 and defeated previously unbeaten City College of San Francisco, 34-7, to capture their second straight state and national championship
