Shoplifting Suspect had Laptop Computer Concealed in Pants

A man who concealed a laptop computer and lighter fluid in his pants was arrested on shoplifting charges for the second time this month.

Robert Anthony Montoya, 19, is charged with non-residential burglary and shoplifting over $500.

At around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, a loss prevention officer at the Walmart at 1550 S. Valley Dr. spotted Montoya in the store with his mother. The loss prevention officer recognized Montoya who was arrested on shoplifting charges at the same Walmart store on Aug. 3. After the Aug. 3 arrest, Montoya was issued what?s known as a criminal trespass warning that forbade him from entering any Walmart property.

After spotting Montoya in the store Monday morning, the loss prevention officer detained him and called police. While in the security office Montoya disclosed that he was shoplifting and that the sunglasses he was wearing belong to the store.

Loss prevention also learned that Montoya had a laptop computer and lighter fluid concealed in his pants and that he had intended to exit the store without paying for the items. Montoya told detectives that he intended to conceal an electric toaster in his pants but spotted the laptop computer and decided to take that, instead.

Montoya was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
