Officials Lift Fire Restrictions At Lincoln Forest

Officials with the Lincoln National Forest have lifted fire restrictions thanks to continued rainfall that has eased fire danger in southern New Mexico.

Forest Supervisor Garth Smelser says the Lincoln forest went through many months with no moisture and that resulted in imposing the toughest of fire restrictions, including closing the forest.

The forest was eventually reopened and the stage 2 restrictions were officially lifted Thursday morning.

Smelser says forest officials will continue to monitor the summer monsoon pattern. They also will continue reminding the public to be safe when visiting the forest.
