Trailer Carrying 100 Cows Flips On Its Side; Crews Work To Free Cattle

A New Mexico driver is safe but shaken after his 18-wheeler flipped on its side near the Santa Teresa port of entry Friday afternoon. The truck’s trailer had 100 cows trapped inside.

Crews worked to free the cows shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Binational Road. In the end, eight cows died. They had been bound for Friona, Texas. The driver transporting them told ABC-7 he got distracted for a split second, which caused the truck to veer off the road. That’s when the weight of the cattle shifted and caused the trailer to come tumbling down.

The driver got out safely.
