Police Arrest Suspect In Entertainment District Shooting
The man accused of shooting two men in the Cincinnati Entertainment District has been arrested, police said.
Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons unit said 22-year-old Charlie Wilson shot two men in the parking lot of the recently opened Spice Bar before fleeing on foot shortly after 1 a.m. Aug. 17. Wilson was arrested Saturday on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weaopn. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail, with bond set at $100,000. Two warrants were issued for his arrest.
Police said they located Wilson, of the 4000 block Kemp Avenue, at an apartment on the 6400 block Edgemere Boulevard. The resident of the apartment, 18-year-old Amanda Hunter, was arrested on suspicion of hindering apprehension and two outstanding traffic warrants. Her bond was set at $1,150.
When officers arrived to the bar at 2720 N. Mesa, they found that 33-year-old Jose Merle and 29-year-old Jason Garced had been shot. The two men were taken to University Medical Center and treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police said Merle and Garced were standing in a parking lot when Wilson fired at least one round from a pistol and then fled on foot into the Kern Place neighborhood.
A Fort Bliss spokesman confirmed that one of the victims is a soldier.
A Border Patrol helicopter assisted in the search for the shooter.
Jenna Martinez, who witnessed the shooting, said she tried to help one of the men.
“I spoke to the guy. … I was holding his stomach, you know, (putting) pressure,” she said. “He said that he didn’t even know the guy. He didn’t know what was going on or what the situation was or why he got shot.”
