UTEP Volleyball Adds Two to Roster
EL PASO – The UTEP volleyball program announces the addition of Francquee Acosta (El Paso, Texas) and Xitlali Herrera (Jarez, Mxico) to the 2011 volleyball team.
?During recruitment, we knew they would fit in with the way our team played,? said head coach Ken Murphy. ?Our personalities mesh very well and they work hard the way we work hard. It has been real easy and good for us.?
Acosta, a 5?11?? outside hitter from Americas High School, accumulated 330 kills, 163 digs, 66 blocks and 43 aces as a senior. In 2010, she was named to the El Paso Times All-District 1-5A first team while earning all-state honorable mention honors. The El Paso native, concluded her club experience with the El Paso Wildfire where she participated in four consecutive Junior Olympic National Tournaments.
Herrera is a sophomore transfer from Colegio de Bachilleres. The Jarez native represented Mxico at the FIVB, NORCECA and Fdration Internationale de Volleyball World Tour posting seven top-10 finishes. Herrera was selected to the Campeonato Intercontinental Juvenil Sub 20 three times.
?The team is very inclusive and I think we try to have a culture here where all these kinds of personalities fit very well and I think they just add one more dimension to us,? said Murphy. ?It has been fun coaching them and seeing our team grow with them on the court.?
