2 Las Cruces Children Missing, Last Seen With Father

Two children are missing in Las Cruces and believed to be with their biological father in Mexico.

Alvaro De Leon Sr. was last seen Monday when he picked up his 6-year-old son Alvaro Jr. from school. De Leon reportedly picked up his children from their mother Sunday morning and was to return them on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police said De Leon is possibly be headed to Coahuila, Mexico, with his son and 2-year-old daughter, Alessandra. Relatives said they saw the three Monday evening in Juarez.

According to a news releases, a parental custody arrangement required De Leon to keep the children in Dona Ana County.

De Leon does not have his own vehicle but was driven by someone else to Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Las Cruces on Monday afternoon where he picked up his son. The vehicle was a white car but no other information is known about the vehicle or who was driving it. De Leon is Hispanic and described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds. He has short black hair with brown eyes. He has health issues that may contribute to an inability to care for the children.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of De Leon and his children is asked to immediately call 911 or their local law enforcement agency. Las Cruces police are attempting to locate a photo of De Leon and will release it when one becomes available.
