Las Cruces Mother Racks Up Two DWIs In Three Days, With Children In Backseat
A Las Cruces mother was arrested twice in three days on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and child abuse.
Erika M. Beltran, 30, was first arrested on Saturday after police said she crashed her car near the intersection of Missouri Avenue and Locust Street. Las Cruces police said she rear-ended another vehicle in her 2008 Mazda 6, with her children in the car.
No major injuries were reported.
Beltran’s children were left with relatives and her vehicle was towed to an impound lot. She also received citations for careless driving and for operating a motor vehicle without insurance or a driver’s license.
Police said that Beltran was again pulled over after she got her car from the impound lot on Monday. Beltran, who had her children with her, was arrested on suspicion of DWI and intentional child abuse.
After the second arrest, police said Beltran’s children were placed in the state’s custody.
Beltran was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Her bond was set at $11,000.
