Police: Robbery Suspect Hospitalized With Gunshot Wound
A man accused of robbing a convenience store at gunpoint later showed up at a different convenience store with a gunshot wound early Friday, police said.
According to investigators, 19-year-old Christopher Kelly Hamil entered the 7-Eleven on the 9000 block of Dyer Street early Friday morning and tried to buy items with a credit card.
Police said the card was declined and Hamil then pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.
They said he then fled the store in a silver-colored car with several items and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police said two hours later, Hamil, whose address is listed as Fort Bliss, arrived at a Valero gas station on the 9000 block of Gateway West with gunshot wound to the his upper torso.
He was taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center.
Police said they found the stolen items and the gun used in the robbery in the car, though it is still unclear how Hamil was wounded.
Police said a warrant has been issued for Hamil on suspicion of aggravated robbery and he will be booked into the El Paso County Jail upon his release from the hospital.
The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons unit continues to investigate the shooting.
