Five EPPD Officers Resign After Investigation

Five El Paso Police Officers resigned from the force this week, amid an investigation into several issues surrounding federal grant programs.

The investigation began several weeks ago. The programs involved are the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, known as STEP, and Impaired Driver Mobilization (IDM).

The officers who resigned are all veterans of the force with more than 10 years of experience.

“The El Paso Police Department is always appreciative of the federal and state grants that are awarded to the department and we will continue to work to maintain the integrity of each and every grant,” Police Chief Greg Allen said.

In addition to the department’s administrative investigation, a criminal investigation was begun by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Office of Inspector General.

The police department’s Special Investigative Group will also conduct its own investigation.

Due to the ongoing criminal investigation and the fact that no criminal charges have been filed, no names are being released at this time.
