Traffic Advisory and Fan Information for the UTEP vs. NMSU Football Game
One of the top rivalry football games in the region will take place this Saturday when the UTEP Miners come to NMSU’s Aggie Memorial Stadium for the Battle of I-10. Because of the high attendance expected and a number of road construction projects taking place near the stadium, the following tips have been prepared to help you get to the facility and enjoy the game to its fullest:
Use Interstate 10, Exit 142: If approaching from the south or west of NMSU, use Exit 142 (University Avenue and Main Street exit) for the best route to the stadium. Take University Avenue east to Espina Street (signs will be in place to help guide you), turn right heading into campus, and follow the signs to Wells Street and the parking lots. This should be the fastest route and avoids the road construction on I-25 (northbound is closed down to only a single lane). Message boards will be located along I-10 to remind drivers of this route.
Leave Early: With lots of people expected, you should plan on heading to the stadium much earlier than normal to get the best parking and make sure you are able to get into the stadium by kickoff. Those who arrive closer to kickoff will generally have to park farther away.
Watch for Traffic Control Personnel: There will be traffic control personnel throughout the area to help keep traffic flowing. Please keep an eye out for these people, use your turn signal to indicate which way you want to go, and follow directions. If certain parking areas are full, they will be closed and you will be directed to the next closest parking.
Get Game Day Information Online: NMSU has a new website to help you get information about all things related to the game. Check it out at http://www.nmstatesports.com/gameday. You can find out about food choices in the concession stands, tailgating procedures, maps of parking areas, and much more.
Game Day Hotline: Starting Saturday morning, if you have a question that event staff might be able to help you with, or you need to report something to event staff, just call (575) 646-4263 (GAME) for one-stop assistance. As always, use 911 only for real emergencies.
Winners’ Circle: Holders of Winners’ Circle passes are encouraged to approach the facility from the east if arriving after 2:00 pm. If lots east of the stadium are full and eastbound traffic is closed at Locust Street, you will need to go south to Sam Steel Way, east on Cholla Road, and then north on Triviz Drive in order to access the Winners’ Circle parking lot. Expect heavier traffic than normal and delays getting into this lot.
Don’t forget to buckle up before heading to the stadium, dedicate your full attention to driving, and be prepared to stop suddenly for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Have fun at the game and celebrate safely!
