Teens Caught On Video Fighting At Franklin High School
Schoolyard fights are increasingly being recorded and posted on the internet for everyone to see.
This time, the fight broke out between two girls on campus at Franklin High School.
A concerned parent sent the video to ABC-7 after she saw the footage on a social networking site. She said the incident happened Sept. 27.
The video shows a group of students gathered just outside Franklin High School. It shows a mother of one of the girls involved shouting, “Next time you call my daughter, I’m going to let her beat the crap out of you,” at another teen.
The mother then struggled to keep the girls apart, but a brawl between the two teens broke out.
Students and onlookers can be heard cheering on the fight, and multiple teens can been seen in the background recording the incident.
The fight finally ends after the daughter pins the other girl down on the ground.
ABC-7 showed some Franklin High parents images of the fight. They said they were stunned after hearing about the incident.
“I’m just in shock to hear that. I’m scared. I know my daughter is a good girl. She doesn’t get in trouble or anything. I’m afraid that someone might get her in trouble or attack her or something,” said concerned Franklin High parent Gude Rodarte.
Another parent told ABC-7 she was just as shocked about the mother’s actions as the fight itself.
“You know I didn’t have any idea that things like this happened, actually, especially with the mother watching and she doesn’t do anything,” said another parent Patricia Cueta.
A student who didn’t want to go on camera said fights aren’t an uncommon occurrence at Franklin, but they typically don’t happen on school grounds. Instead, she said students cross the street and fight behind a strip mall where they aren’t being watched.
ABC-7 shared the video with El Paso Independent School District spokeswoman Renee de Santos.
De Santos told ABC-7 in a written statement that campus police are looking into the fight.
“EPISD Police Services is currently investigating the incident and will use the video in the investigation. This incident does appear to have occurred after school hours,” she said.
School officials still don’t know who captured the video but said that those filming won’t be disciplined because recording a fight isn’t against the Student Code of Conduct when it’s recorded in a public area.
De Santos added in the statement that students who were involved in the fight are subject to disciplinary measures, since it is against their Student Code of Conduct.
