Church, School Burglarized Same Night
El Paso Police are investigating two break-ins; one at a church, the other at a school.
Both happened overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.
El Paso Independent School District Spokeswoman Renee De Santos said someone broke into Magoffin Middle School and took two monitors and two desktops. De Santos added the burglary took place in an older building on campus not in current use by students.
Pastor of Vid Verdadera Church in the lower valley, Arnold Chavez, had to call police Sunday morning after discovering someone had broken the front window of the church and stolen a guitar and two amplifiers. Chavez said it appeared as though the thief broke the front window and used the backdoor to get out with the equipment. As church goers trickled in for service Sunday morning, they saw officers still investigating and moved the worship outdoors.
“We trust in God that he will see us through this. We were able to have prayer outside, we held hands, we got in a circle, we prayed to the Lord. We asked God to forgive those who came into his house and stole the churche’s property,” said Chavez. He added the church is planning to add an alarm system.
There is nothing to indicate the two are related incidents.
