Police Identifiy Fort Bliss Soldier Who Shot Himself In Leg
A Fort Bliss soldier was placing a handgun in his pocket as he entered his vehicle when he shot himself in the leg Wednesday evening, police said.
Nathan Carstens, 23, who was in the parking lot of a Northeast apartment complex, drove himself to the Fort Bliss gate, where he was then taken to Beaumont Army Medical Center.
El Paso police and military police are investigating the shooting.
El Paso police spokesman Darrel Petry said Wednesday said officers and military police were called to the hospital where they were conducting their investigation Wednesday evening, he said.
The soldier’s injury, Petry said, was not life-threatening.
