1. Number One campaign focus:
Return prosperity to Las Cruces by promoting a business friendly environment aimed at growth and full employment: cutting red tape, reducing taxes and fees levied on employers, and eliminating duplicate/overlapping/outdated city regulation.
2. What sets you apart from your opponents?
I am the most knowledgeable of City business. I do my homework and take pride in casting informed votes on City Council. While I evaluate issues from a conservative point of view, I have a record of governing as a non-partisan. I decide matters based on what’s in the best interests of the City. I have the experience, knowledge and involvement in the community it takes to be a better mayor. I have been in the community for 38 years working on boards, being a banker and a retail store owner making it possible for me the use the common sense it takes to run a city.
3. Relevant experience that qualifies you for Mayor of Las Cruces:
My career path started at a young age, and I worked as a teacher?s aide in the public schools first, working in the Migrant Program. I later built my career at Mutual Building & Loan, in which after 18 years became the Vice President of Operations, I then was co-owner of a retail store in Las Cruces, C. Taylor & Co. My education, banking, and business owner experience each have given me the most common sense approach to being a City Councillor for the past 8 years.
4. If you had the chance to revoke an ordinance in Las Cruces immediately upon taking office, which one would it be?
The currently passed impact fees.
5. Describe a moment that changed your life:
There are many moments that have been life changing. My grandmother was my inspiration and mentor. Along with my grandfather she raised 12 children. In my life as a teenager she was the one with the best advice and I love her dearly. Her view of the world and her experiences growing up in a difficult time for women has given me the reason to be heard and the passion to care about others. She passed 6 months after her 100th birthday in 1981 and even through her final days she was a fighter.
6. In what ways is Las Cruces on the right track, and in what ways does it need to change course?
We have a fiscally sound budget; but budget priorities are out of line with the ultimate role of the city. Police and firefighters are treated as any other service. This is wrong and I will restore public safety to the top of the list when elected mayor.
7. If elected, how will you balance the needs of family, your career and your office?
I have been an elected official for 8 years and my children are graduated from college, employed and into their own lives. Therefore, my husband and I are very involved in the community and enjoy doing so.
8. Where did you grow up?
Las Cruces.
9. When and why did you come to Las Cruces?
Born and raised in Las Cruces.
