‘Celebration Of Lights’: Switch Flipped On Downtown Tree

Downtown El Paso got a little brighter this weekend.

Saturday evening, El Paso Mayor John Cook, ABC-7’s Estela Casas and a child sponsored by Candlelighters of El Paso helped flip the switch on the downtown Christmas tree in San Jacinto Plaza.

The tree-lighting was followed by the Holiday Lights parade and the night concluded with fireworks over the El Paso skyline.

The annual event draws thousands to the heart of the city.

The tree itself was donated by Corrine Boyce in honor of her late husband, Charles “Chuck” Boyce, in 1998. It stands 54 feet tall above San Jacinto Plaza.
