Driver Crashes Into Rock Wall, Charged With 5th DWI

El Paso police say a man involved in an early morning crash Saturday was found passed out behind the wheel.

Investigators told ABC-7 that 35-year-old Jaime Lopez crashed his 1993 Chevy Blazer into a rock wall on the 3900 block of Tularosa Avenue in Central El Paso.

Police said they him Lopez slumped over in the driver’s seat shortly before 4 a.m. Officers said the driver showed “various signs of intoxication.”

Investigators said they discovered Lopez has four previous DWI convictions. His first conviction was in 2002 with another three convictions in 2009, police said.

Based on his criminal history, officers said Lopez was taken in for a mandatory blood draw.

Police said they also recovered a small baggie of cocaine.

Lopez was charged with DWI 3 or More Convictions and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was booked into the El Paso county jail on a bond totaling $8,000.
