Working Outside Is A Challenge In This Kind Of Cold
For the lucky people, the cold only bites while walking to or from the car.
But a lot of people have to spend all day outside snow, cold or shine.
ABC-7 spent Tuesday traveling around town speaking with people working out in the cold. The kind of cold that can make anyone miserable.
“My night and morning were busy, real busy,” said Ricardo Concha, owner/operator of El Paso’s Star Towing. “It was real cold last night.”
Others, like Jose Ramirez, one of the construction workers building the new UTEP exit, said they came to work prepared.
“I just put sweats under my pants,” Ramirez said. “I put a sweatshirt under my jacket.”
ABC-7 asked construction worker Bryan Miranda, what’s the toughest part of working in the cold?
“Just getting started,” Miranda said. “Before you get warm.”
Miranda said the best thing to do is stay busy.
“The heat is in the tools is what they always say,” Miranda said.
Perhaps the coldest job in town is working at the airport. No matter how cold it is, usually the flights continue. Rene Robledo, who works for a Southwest Airlines ground crew, knows that all too well.
“I dress heavy, in layers,” Robledo said. “Lots of layers.”
Southwest Airlines co-worker Chuck Quezada is just glad he’s not on Tuesday night’s schedule.
“While they’re out here working,” Quezada said, “I’ll be nice and warm at home.”
