Driver Had 29 Bags Of Pot, Tosses 2 Out Of Window, Police Say

Officers pulled over a man after seeing him toss out two small bags of marijuana, only to find 27 more baggies inside the SUV about 3 a.m. Monday in East El Paso.

Police said 18-year-old Jonathan Avalos tossed out two bags of pot from a green Ford SUV in front of a police cruiser in the 8200 block of Yermoland Drive. Officers recovered the marijuana and followed Avalos to the 800 block of Monteros, where they say he ran a stop sign.

Police searched the car and found another 27 baggies of marijuana in a backpack inside the SUV. The total weight of the 29 baggies was 8.54 ounces.

Avalos, of the 900 bock of Montera Road, was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, more than four ounces, less than five pounds. Police said he had four outstanding municipal court warrants. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail with bond set at $2,098.
