Police Identify Man Killed In Christmas Eve Crash

Police identified the driver of a pickup who died when he crashed early Christmas Eve in East El Paso.

Investigators said 39-year-old Pedro Arenas was not wearing his seat belt when he crashed a 1995 Ford F-150 about 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the 3100 block of Lee Trevino Drive. Arenas suffered severe head trauma.

Officers with the Special Traffic Investigations unit have determined that Arenas was traveling north on Lee Trevino when the truck drove over a curb and crashed into several shrubs, causing it roll over at least one time before coming to a stop on its side in a parking lot. An investigation continues.

Investigators said it is unknown if speed or alcohol were factors in this crash, and that the weather and road conditions do not appear to be contributing factors at this time.

Arenas, of the 10500 block of Shannon Place, had worked at the Walmart SuperCenter on Gateway West and Yarbrough Drive for the last four months, store manager Kirk Behrens said in statement. Behrens said Arenas left behind a wife and three children.

“Pedro was known for being very friendly and always eager to help others,” Behrens said. “He was a valued associate and will be missed by his Walmart family.”
