Demolitions Training at Ft. Bliss Echos through Borderland

Residents around the Borderland share their concerns after training at Fort Bliss causes loud ‘booms’ to be heard around the area.

The first reports of ‘loud boom’ began trickling into the ABC-7 newsroom, with viewers from the neighborhoods near Pellicano and Loop375 saying windows in their home were shaking after a “loud, sonic boom.” We then began to get calls from Horizon City and Socorro, reporting the same type of situation.

As the pace of the booms and vibrations picked up, so did the number of calls and Facebook posts regarding the strange situation. A call to Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo (NM) revealed that their F-22 Raptors were flying, but none were in the air at the time of the reported booms.

The mystery was solved by Major Myles Caggins, from Fort Bliss, who posted on our Facebook page shortly after 4pm. Major Caggins simply posted that Ft. Bliss was conducting “demolitions training” and the explosions were the result of the day-long exercise.
