Law Enforcement Agencies Conduct Drug Raids
Drug raids occurred across the Borderland Thursday, creating similar scenes in Horizon City and at a pecan ranch in Anthony, New Mexico.
Two separate incidents woke up residents at approximately the same time early Thursday morning.
A spokeswoman for the Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed the raids are linked.
Flashing lights and law enforcement officers from several agencies are what residents saw as they looked out their windows.
“There were cop cars and FBI agents and dogs over here, there was a bunch of them,” said a neighbor who did not want to be identified.
The Horizon resident who lives on the 100 block of Sahuaro Drive, said at least one car was towed from a home.
“They went into the house, they brought some things out of the house and evidence bags, and they had a dog,” said the woman.
The witness said a woman who lives in the home was taken from the scene by investigators.
ABC-7 has learned that woman is April Garcia, a Code Enforcement officer for the city of Horizon.
The Horizon City Police Chief said the police department was aware of the incident, but not involved in the raid.
The director of Code Enforcement for the City of Horizon confirmed Garcia has been employed there for five years.
At least two cars were confiscated clear across town in Anthony, New Mexico at the Nutcracker Suite Pecan Farm and Restaurant.
More than half a dozen law enforcement vehicles and a Border Patrol canine unit were all on hand.
At this point, there is no confirmation of any arrests in Thursday’s raids.
Agent Diana Apodaca with the DEA sent ABC-7 a statement: “DEA, together with our Federal, State and Local partners are conducting on-going enforcement operations throughout the region. Any additional information will be released as soon as possible.”
Phone calls made to the Nutcracker Suite were not answered.
