Update: Man Charged With Murder After Car Chase Shooting In Las Cruces

Las Cruces Police are investigating an overnight shooting on south Valley Drive that resulted in the death of one man and left another fighting for his life.

Jeremy Martinez, of 6015 Sunny Lane south of Las Cruces, has been charged with an open count of murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, and shooting at or from a motor vehicle. He is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center .

Shortly after 12 a.m. Monday, April 2, Las Cruces Police were called to a report of a man with a gun on south Valley Drive near University Avenue . Police arrived and found Michael Hahn, 19, on the roadway where he was struck by at least one fatal round.

Another victim, 19-year-old Policarpio Padilla, was also shot but managed to run toward a nearby hotel where he collapsed. Padilla was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso with what are possibly life-threatening injuries.

Police were called at around midnight to a report of a man with a gun on south Valley Drive near the intersection of University Avenue . Police arrived and found one of the victims, 19-year-old Michael Hahn, on the roadway where he was struck by at least one fatal round, according to police officials.

Policarpio Padilla, 19, was shot but managed to run toward a nearby hotel where he collapsed. Padilla was then airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso with possible life-threatening injuries.

Police said that Hahn four of his friends drove to a home on Sunny Lane, south of Las Cruces off Las Alturas Drive, where one of the occupants of the Chevrolet Impala threw a cinder block through the rear window of a Volkswagen Jetta. Martinez, the owner of the Jetta, armed with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, got into his vehicle and gave chase as the Impala left heading north on Las Alturas, according to police.

Police believe Martinez started firing rounds at the five occupants in the Impala as the two vehicles headed north on Las Alturas and eventually west on University Avenue .

The Impala turned north on Valley Drive and spun-out in the middle of the road. Martinez then reversed into a grassy embankment in front of the Ramada Palms hotel. The five occupants exited the Impala and started running. Martinez stopped near the Impala and fired more rounds, striking the two victims, according to police

Martinez was then taken to the ground by other occupants of the Impala who held him until police arrived.
