Clerical Error Causes Change In Cost For Bridge Project
A clerical error resulted in El Paso County Commissioners taking time to discuss a contract tied to the Tornillo-Guadalupe International Bridge project.
The amount awarded for a contract during an April meeting was incorrect because it included the base bid, but not alternatives that were also approved.
According to Commissioner Dan Haggerty, that money is typically approved as case issues arise and alternative measures need to be taken.
The initial amount approved was $5,765,000. On Monday the commission decided to rescind that motion and approve a new motion at a price of $5,803,420.
Confusing the matter was a figure that appeared on the agenda that was much larger. Several commissioners were surprised to see a figure near $6.5 million.
After discussing the situation, which apparently was tied to a portion of the cost being paid by the Mexican delegation, the motion passed unanimously for the new contract with the Dan Williams Company at a cost of $5,803,420.
