Border Patrol agent dies in ATV crash near Fort Hancock

A Border Patrol agent from El Paso was killed in the line of duty Friday evening.

Officials say the agent, 29-year-old Leopoldo Cavazos Jr., was killed in an ATV crash near Fort Hancock.

Cavazos, who was from Houston, was a six-year veteran of the Border Patrol. He was assigned to the El Paso Sector’s Fort Hancock Station, where he worked as a field intelligence agent, a safety officer and a first responder.

And though he worked at the same station the entire time, he also participated in several operations in other parts of Texas and New Mexico and Arizona.

The Border Patrol’s El Paso sector is still investigating the crash.
