Day one of Perez trial has emotional moments

The first day of the Yara Perez trial wrapped up Tuesday evening, and included a few emotionally charged moments.

Yara Perez is facing capitol murder and intentional abuse charges, following the death of her 3 year old daughter Jacqueline Gonzalez on Nov. 19, 2007.

She plead not guilty Tuesday morning as the trial began.

This is the second trial for Perez.

The first was declared a mistrial in June, after a juror told other jurors something about the case. The information was overheard from baliffs talking.

Prosecution kicked off the trial today, by presenting their witnesses and evidence.

Penny Hamilton lead the prosecuting team, and first called to the stand two officers who responded to the apartment where Jackie’s body was found.

The apartment is located at 625 S. Yarbrough.

Officer Martin Martinez was the first witness.

Martinez described himself as a crime scene officer, and recalled being called to the scene around 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
