DPS arrests Socorro staff, searches police headquarters

The Texas Department of Pubic Safety on Tuesday night executed mulitiple search warrants and arrested four people at the Socorro Police headquarters, Socorro Spokesman Dave Garcia confirmed.

DPS officials did not disclose any information on the arrests and directed questions to the District Attorney’s office.

Garcia said the Texas Rangers looked through computers, boxes and files at the Police Headquarters located at Poona and Calcutta streets in Socorro. After they arrested the four individuals, the Rangers moved their operations to the Rio Vista Socorro Police Substation, where they continued the investigation. Garcia saidDPS may have been moved to the Rio Vista location because that’s where Socorro’s computer server is located.

Garcia said he knew who was missing from the Police headquarters but didn’t know if some of the individuals, such as a Shift Sargeant only accompanied suspects into custody or if they were all arrested. He said a fifth person may have been arrested as well, but that has not been confirmed.

The city Spokesman said its likely the four suspects are police officers. “If they’re arresting people at Police headquarters, just by reason, there is a likelihood, officers were arrested,” he said.

It’s unclear what they were arrested for, said Garcia. A DPS official did not provide information on the investigation but did inform the media that some of the Rangers at the scene were undercover agents.
