Mack Leftwich to Start Saturday

Coach Kugler told the media a week ago, that players who were red-shirting would not have their red-shirt year wasted. In a shocking move, Kugler changed his mind. Today Kugler announced freshman Mack Leftwich will start for the Miners Saturday against North Texas.

Leftwich is 5-10, and 190 pounds. Last year he was the Pennsylvania player of the year and helped lead his high school to a 4A title. Leftwich primarily ran the scout team this year, but now will run the first team offense against the Mean Green.

Mack’s first start has some irony to it. According to Mack Leftwich’s UTEP bio he was born in Denton, Texas. His first start will come in Denton, against North Texas. Leftwich beat out Blaire Sullivan and Garrett Simpson for the starting job while Jameill Showers is out nursing a shoulder injury.
