Franklin Tops El Dorado

El Dorado came into tonights game hoping to grab at least a share of the District 1-5A title with a win over Franklin. The Cougars had other plans.

Baylor Romney in at quarterback again this week for Cameron Candelaria. Franklin striking first, taking a 14 nothing 1st quarter lead. The Aztecs would respond behind the running game of Ruben Vasser. He ran for two touchdowns in the second to tie it up at 14.

Franklin gets a field goal before the half to take a 17-14 lead into the locker rooms. In the second half, both offenses continued to put up lots of points on the board.

The first turnover didn’t come until the third quarter. Trevor Rios picks off Romney taking it back all the way for the score, 34-31 Aztecs. Franklin’s Martin Blancas hit a 42-yard field goal to tie the game at 34-34 with 5:41 left in the game.

Then the Cougar defense sealed the deal. They force a fumble by Austyn Hill in the end zone. Franklin’s Justin Calderon recovers it for the TD. Franklin putting up another score late in the fourth. They win 47 – 34 over the Aztecs to secure their spot in the post season.
