Ashlie Rodriguez
Ashlie Rodriguez was born in San Diego, Calif., but has lived all over the country with her parents and three younger sisters. Her father’s career in the U.S. Navy took her to places as far away as Rhode Island, Georgia and Mexico City.
Moving every two years developed a natural curiosity in Ashlie and a passion to explore new things.
Ashlie graduated from San Diego State University with degrees in politics and journalism. Her career was jumped started with internships in the world of print journalism.
She has been published in numerous San Diego publications, the Los Angeles Times and National Journal Magazine in Washington D.C.
She is proud to have been in the nation’s capitol after the financial crisis and during the debate of Obama’s Affordable Care Act, which gave her opportunities to shine light on the powerful lobbyists who were pulling strings in Washington and the authors behind many pieces of legislation.
But in 2010 Ashlie chose to visually tell her stories and joined KFBB-TV ABC-5 in Great Falls, Montana as a general assignment reporter, covering a wide range of issues and community events.
One of her most memorable stories was during the cold winter month of February 2011, when she interviewed a homeless father of three who was forced to sleep outside.
After her story aired, she learned a viewer saw her story, and then hired the homeless father. He was able to rent a small home and put food on the table for his children by Spring.
She is happy to be reporting in El Paso because of the sunshine, delicious food and the beautiful, desert culture.
Ashlie is an “extreme animal-lover” and you may see her walking her flame-pointe Siamese cat. She welcomes your story ideas, community concerns, feedback, emails and phone calls, so feel free to reach out to her.
Ashlie is so excited to be on the ABC-7 news team and proud to be serving the El Paso-Las Cruces community.
Watch Ashlie during the week at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. on ABC 7.
