El Paso Comic Con opens tonight

Artists, vendors, publishers and comics are converging in Downtown El Paso for the third annual EP-CON, the El Paso Comic Convention.

Organizers are hoping 2012’s Comic Con outshines last year’s event.

Some of the guests who are in town for the convention include actors from “Twilight,” “Breaking Dawn,” “The Hunger Games” and “Star Trek.”

ABC-7 at Noon will have one of the guests in studio Friday.

Actor Eric Roberts is joining Bob Harp and Stephanie Valle during the newscast. While Roberts built a following for such films as “Best of the Best” (1989), he’s been busy since then. The website IMDB lists 263 films to his acting credit. Roberts was most recently in “The Expendables” and “The Dark Knight.”

Tickets are available for Comic Con. Three-day passes are $35 in advance, $45 at the door. Saturday only is $40 and Sunday only is $25. The three-day pass gets you into the preview night at 6 p.m. Friday.

Last year, 6,000 people attended the convention, a 500 percent increase from the year before, according to organizers. They expect a bigger crowd this year.
