Fan receives gunshot wound at NMSU vs. UNM game

A fan was injured by a bullet at the New Mexico State University vs. New Mexico football game in Las Cruces Saturday night, according to NMSU officials.

Police said the fan, a woman in her 50s, was hit in the leg by a bullet.

The woman was in the South seating section of Aggie Memorial Stadium when she was shot.

People in the area initially thought she was having medical issues, and did not realize she had been shot.

Officials believe the bullet was not shot from inside the stadium, but instead may have been shot into the air from outside the stadium.

NMSU officials released a statement via Facebook shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday that said officers were investigating the shooting.

They also asked that anyone who noticed any suspicious activity at the time of the shooting call the NMSU Police Department at 575-646-3311.
