Obama signs act restricting protests at military funerals
President Barack Obama signed the Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012 into law on Monday, providing a wide-ranging package of benefits to military personnel and enacting new restrictions on protests of service member funerals, according to a Huffington Post article.
Th Associated Press reports that the law bans protesting within 300 feet of military funerals. Numerous states have passed laws restricting protests at funerals after members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas began protesting at the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
