Three arrested in double-slaying near Socorro canal

Authorities have made three arrests in an August double-homicide that occurred next to a canal in Socorro.

Each face a capital murder charge.

According to a sheriff’s news release, 32-year-old Eddie Noriega, 43-year-old Luis Rodriguez and 33-year-old Juan Cornejo we arrested last week without incident at various locations within El Paso County.

Noriega is being held without bond. Rodriguez is being held on an $11 million bond and Cornejo was granted a $10 million bond.

Investigators say 32-year-old Luis Antonio Fierro and 19-year-old Roberto Renteria were found shot dead near a canal by Apodaca Road on Aug. 22.

Nearby residents told ABC-7 they heard gunshots and later saw a man leave in a white Silverado pickup.

According to arrest records obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team, a man named luis Fierro faced several charges, including aggravated assault, possession of controlled substances and organized criminal activity. He pleaded guilty to some of those charges, while others were dismissed.

According to arrest records obtained Monday by the ABC-7 I-Team, Noriega was named in an eight-count indictment that charges him with four counts of engaging in organized criminal activity, three counts of aggravated robbery and one count of retaliation.

According to court documents, Noriega is a member of the Barrio Azteca prison gang. He is accused of threatening a man with a gun and then threatening to burn down the man’s bar and kill the man’s family. He is also charged with robbing another man and a woman at gunpoint.

A sheriff’s spokeswoman said no further details will be made available because the investigation is still ongoing.
