18-Wheeler carrying pizza and ice cream falls off I-10
A semi truck carrying a load of pizza and ice cream fell over an elevated section of I-10 early Monday morning in central El Paso.
The incident happened in the eastbound lanes near the Paisano overpass, just before 3:45 a.m.
Emergency crews say slick roads from overnight rain showers played a role in the wreck. Investigators say the driver lost control of the truck, which eventually landed on Gateway East.
Police say the driver of the truck was alone, and was able to get out of the wreck unscathed. Nevertheless, he was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
Emergency crews tell us the truck was carrying a load of pizza and ice cream from Albuquerque, which was destined for a local supermarket.
As of 6 a.m., the wreck is not affecting traffic on I-10. However, the Trowbridge exit is closed, and Gateway East between Trowbridge and Paisano is also closed. The scene is expected to be cleared sometime around noon.
