Mother accused of overdosing 6-year-old son
A mother in Las Cruces is behind bars accused of overdosing her 6-year-old son with powerful sedatives.
Lucinda Mary Randall, 43, was arrested Friday. Police say the boy started having trouble breathing Tuesday after taking the pills.
He was taken to Mountain View Regional Medical Center in critical condition. That’s where authorities learned the boy was suffering from an overdose of the sleeping medication, and possibly methadone and oxycodone.
The boy has since been turned over to the New Mexico Children’s and Families department.
Randall, who lives in the 1400 block of Sacramento Street, is charged with intentional child abuse.
Detectives said the house was littered with dog feces and various medications.
