Police chase ends on rooftop after wreck

A police chase involving a K-9 unit came to an end on a West El Paso rooftop early Friday morning.

At around 1 a.m., an unidentified man crashed his truck into a light pole and at least two traffic signs at the intersection of Mesa Street and Festival. The wreck temporarily closed the intersection.

Police said the man got out of his truck and ran into a neighborhood on Confetti Drive, just south of Mesa Street and Festival Drive.

Officers searchedthrough the yards of several homes anda K-9 unit was called out to help find the driver. The dog led police to a house, where the man was on the roof.

The driver was eventually brought down by police and treated by emergency crews.

His injuries did not appear to be serious, but witnesses at the scene say the man may have been drunk.

It is still unknown if the driver has been arrested. The intersection of Mesa and Festivalhas since been reopened.
