El Paso woman wants answers after brother attacked outside Dallas restaurant

Jenny Holguin held back tears Wednesday evening as she watched a Dallas story online about what happened to her brother, Luis Rocha.

“All his ribs are broken and his face is all broken,” Holguin said.

She last saw her older brother two months ago when he came to visit her at work.

“We need support. We need help. We can’t solve this alone. We need people to know what’s going on. This should not have happened to anyone,” Holguin said about why the news of what happened is important to people in the Borderland.

Our Dallas affiliate WFAA reported that 70-year-old Rocha was leaving Campisi’s restaurant Sunday night when he was attacked by three suspects outside.

Ivan Pugh grew up with Rocha’s son and recounts what it was like when visiting Rocha in the hospital after the attack.

“I walked right by his room and didn’t recognize him because he was in such bad shape,” Pugh said. “As I walked by the room, I said, ‘I hope that’snot Mr. Rocha’ … and it was.”

Family believes Rocha was hit with a crowbar or pipe but he wasn’t robbed.

“Now I’m starting to choose my helplessness to anger and hope that something will be done,” Holguin said. She hopes detectives from the Dallas Police Department continue to search for clues in the case but during the search for answers Holguin can’t help but think how the attack will continue to impact her brother’s life.

Dallas police say investigators have no leads in the case and are searching the area around Campisi ‘ s for surveillance video, according to the WFAA report. The police report classifies the attack as an aggravated robbery, although the suspects did not take any property.

The report only lists the injuries as “lacerations” to the right side of Rocha’s face.

“The next 10-15 years were supposed to be the best years of his life and now he’ll probably be spending those years recovering,” Holguin said.

Holguin said Rocha will need to undergo several reconstructive surgeries. She also said she’s been to Campisi’s restaurant in Dallas with her family before. Holguin added that the restaurant is in a very safe neighborhood and she feels her brother was randomly attacked.
