I-10 pileup: 10 vehicles collide near I-20 junction; 1 dead
A 10-vehicle pileup Saturday left a person dead and caused the closure of I-10 west in West Texas.
“As of right now IH-10 westbound lanes are closed at mile marker 192, about 4 miles east of the IH-10/ IH-20 split,” said Sgt. Santos Carrasco, a DPS spokesman.
A Texas Department of Public Safety dispatcher in Pecos told ABC-7 the pileup occurred around 9 a.m. Saturday morning. She said the accident involved at least ten 18-wheelers.
Traffic is being diverted onto Highway 285 in Pecos.
A truck driver told ABC-7 traffic is backed up for miles.
The DPS dispatcher said the initial cause of the accident appears to be weather-related, after temperatures hit below freezing early Saturday morning and black ice may have formed on the highway.
