Electronic waste now accepted at landfill

The City of El Paso Environmental Services Department is now accepting electronic waste, also known as e-waste, to be recycled at its landfill, located at 2300 Darrington Road.

This service is free and limited to residential customers for the disposal of normal household quantities of e-waste. Electronics from businesses will not be accepted.

“By providing El Paso with another option for disposing of unwanted electronics, we are saving limited landfill space and promoting the responsible disposal of items that can harm the environment and public health if discarded improperly,” said John Garza, Environmental Services Department Deputy Director.

Electronic waste has been accepted at Environmental Service’s Citizen Collection Stations (CCS) since 2010.

E-waste accepted at the landfill and CCS are:
Televisions
Cameras
Radios
Fax machines
Cell phones
Landline telephones
VCR and DVD players
Portable music players (MP3s, CD players, iPods, etc.)
Computers and their accessories (monitors, keyboards, scanners, printers, photo copiers, webcams, etc.)

No documentation is needed if disposing of electronics at the landfill, which is open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. A recent El Paso Water Utilities bill and corresponding identification, such as a driver’s license, is required when dropping off electronic waste at a CCS. The sites are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and are located at: 4501 Hondo Pass (entrance off of Stahala); 2492 Harrison; 121 Atlantic; 1034 Pendale; and 4200 Delta.
