Police arrested two suspects in a Las Cruces murder case from late July, officials said.

The suspects, 26-year-old Jeffrey Moore and 40-year-old Christine Walker, are facing murder charges in connection with the death of 62-year-old James David Vaughn, police said.

The body of Vaughn was found by a pedestrian on July 27. The passerby was walking in the vicinity of an irrigation canal that runs perpendicular to Amador Street.

According to police, Vaughn was beat to death. His body was found covered with a blanket.

Officials said investigators had been looking for the two suspects for questioning.

Police located Moore and Walker Friday night in Albuquerque, with the help of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, according to police.

Charges were filed Saturday morning.

The two suspects are being held at the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
