Update: Man killed in crash near Horizon identified

Update: El Paso County Sheriff’s officials have identified the man killed in the crash as Sacho Jizkov of Elwood Park, Illinois

Previous story: Just after 11 p.m. last night, a man was hit and killed by a semi-truck, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred on Interstate 10 East, just before the Horizon exit.

Sheriff’s office officials said the pedestrian was crossing the freeway when he was struck by an 18-wheeler.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner. He has not been identified.

The 50-year-old driver of the semi stopped at the scene, and did not suffer any injuries. The driver does not face any charges at this time, officials said.

Special traffic investigator’s were called to the scene, along with the sheriff’s office, D.P.S. and the Texas Department of Transportation.

The highway was closed for travel for five and a-half hours, but reopened around 4:45 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

An investigation into the incident continues.
