Train crashes into SUV in Clint

(Oct. 2012 Story)

El Paso Sheriff’s officials say a train crashed into an SUV left behind by a drunk driver in Clint early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Burbridge and Trent. Burbridge is currently closed due to construction, but officials say the driver of the SUV ignored the construction barriers and got stuck on the tracks.

A Sheriff’s spokeswoman says the operator of the train saw the man outside the vehicle waving for the train to stop. However, the train could not stop in time and it dragged the SUV for about 100 yards.

Investigators say they found the man with minor injuries, and highly intoxicated. Charges are pending against him.
