NM State Earns 29 Academic All-WAC Honors
The 2013-14 Academic All-WAC men and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have been announced. New Mexico State placed 29 winter student-athletes on to the list. The Aggies now have 50 academic all-conference honorees this season after 21 from the fall semester.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
“We are very proud of our student-athletes as they continue to be at the forefront of the Academic All-WAC honorees,” athletics director Dr. McKinley Boston said. “We’re proud of the work they did this winter both in competition and in the classroom.”
K.C. Ross-Miller represented the men’s basketball program, while Elena Holguin and Bradley Nash were women’s basketball honorees.
“We are very proud of both Elena and Bradley. They are great role models for this team and we hope to continue the tradition of having successful student-athletes on the Academic All-WAC list representing Aggie Women’s Basketball,” head coach Mark Trakh said.
Women’s indoor track and field honorees are Christina Barela, Taylor Black, Sarabel Bojoquez, Jade Davis, Leah Englehart, Marissa Gonzales, Diana Hawk, Liz Mata, Alishia Perkins, Gael Sanchez, Rebecca Schoeny and Victoria Trujillo.
“We are pleased to have 12 student-athletes on the Academic All-WAC list,” track and field head coach Orin Richburg said. “It just shows the hard work that our athletes are putting into not only on the track but into the classroom as well.”
The Aggie swimming and diving squad had 14 honorees including Jona Bjarnadottir, Nicole Brennecke, Tricia Kiss, Jessica Legg, Dorottya Lennet, Emily Nightingale, Jaymee Porter, Chelsey Reber, Audrey Ruiz, Cassandra Rupp, Kara Schweitzer, Terrin Seaver, Mackenzie Soper and Brianna Zuniga.
