Chihuahuas Win Sunday, Take Series in Salt Lake
The El Paso Chihuahuas trailed by six runs Sunday but came back to beat the Salt Lake Bees 12-10 at Smith’s Ballpark. It was the third time this season El Paso won a game after trailing by six runs or more. The Chihuahuas took two out of three in Salt Lake, their third series victory in their last four tries.
Salt Lake collected nine hits, all singles, in a six-run first inning against Jason Lane. The Chihuahuas took their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth, when Jace Peterson’s three-run double put the Chihuahuas ahead, 9-8. The two teams then swapped single runs from the bottom of the sixth through the top of the eighth, with Salt Lake tying the game two different times. Alex Castellanos’ sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth put El Paso ahead to stay.
Cody Decker went 3-for-6 with two home runs and three RBIs. Decker has seven home runs in his last 13 games. Peterson went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Jonathan Galvez finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Jerry Sullivan and Hector Ambriz slowed down the frequent scoring, with each pitching a scoreless inning late for the Chihuahuas.
